Why is it important to obtain DUNS?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Data Universal Numbering System\nor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdahelp.us\/duns-number-fda-registration-faq.html\">DUNS\nnumber<\/a> is a unique 9-digit identification number provided by Dun &amp;\nBradstreet (D &amp; B). The DUNS Number is location specific. So, each distinct\nphysical location of an entity (such as branches, divisions, and headquarters)\nmay be assigned a separate DUNS number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All domestic and foreign food\nfacilities are required to provide a Unique Facility Identifier (UFI) when\nregistering with FDA. Currently DUNS number is the only acceptable UFI\nrecognized by FDA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FDA intends to conduct the\nverification process for UFI as below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdahelp.us\/food-form.html\">registrations<\/a>\n     \u2013 Once the registration is submitted, FDA will verify the accuracy of UFI.\n     FDA will not confirm the registration or provide a registration number\n     until verification is complete. <\/li><li>For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdahelp.us\/fda-registration-renewal.html\">biennial renewals<\/a>\n     \u2013 Once the renewal is submitted, FDA will verify the accuracy of UFI. FDA\n     will not confirm the renewal until verification is complete. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUNS number for FDA purposes is free\nof cost. Facilities registering with FDA must obtain a DUNS number first.
